    About

Baby bear is 22cm. His body and ears are from the Gypsycream 'Little Ted the Bear' pattern, but the other parts are my design with some help from Sarah Glasson's Knit a Teddy. I am not a designer or pattern writer but I am trying to write the pattern - a bit of a challenge as I haven't a clue how one is supposed to do it. I had three attempts at the head. I actually managed the arms and tiny tail first go.

I used mainly mattress stitch to make him up and Pearl cotton for the facial features. Stitched features are nice and safe for babies.

I have used Lang Merino 120, which is soft but tough - perfect. I used about 1.25 Balls for the main colour and just about 0.20 of a ball for paws and nose. Basically, I had to buy just one more ball of the main colour after completing his mum Dorothea.

I thought I recognised some parts from my Little Ted the Bear. It's important to remember when you do write your own pattern that it should come from the heart, not someone else's, that way you'll have a very special design :)

Thank you for your generous words. I don't want to be pinching ideas but obviously it is a bit of a combo design. A bit more shaping works well with the flatter yarn. I did try Little Ted original in a Patons fluffy yarn but could not identify stitches and made a big hash of it and threw it on the fire in the end! Thank you for your encouragement. Jules
