    About

Together with some sparkly gifts - my sister loves glitter - I'm making this soft and cosy cowl for a February birthday girl.

I found the yarn deep in my stash with the receipt which confirms I bought it 12 months ago. How could I let such gorgeous soft yarn in such a lovely colour lie unused for so long? Answer: that's the nature of yarn obsession and an ever expanding stash. Must review and rearrange my stock to see what other little gems are hidden there!

Update: This is a really lovely fitting cowl in a very simple garter stitch made interesting and quite chic by the change of stitch direction and the three needle cast off on the right side of the garment. I'm definitely going to knit this again.

    Yarns

    Needles & Hooks

    • Single Point 3.75mm (US 5) 30cm

    Accessories

    • Tapestry Needle

    Measurements

Notes: I found that cutting down the number of rows on the first rectangle from 60 to 50 gave me the 10" depth required. I then reduced the number of stitches picked up for the second step of the cowl from 60 to 50 and did the same on the final castoff pickup. Everything else in the pattern remained unchanged.

      Correze

The colour in the photos is bluer than the actual yarn which is more of a sea blue/green shade - tried photographing several times in different light conditions but just can't get the right result. Any hints and tips welcome as I have this problem frequently.

      Correze

The secret to this cowl seems to lie in the change of knitting direction once the first rectangle of simple garter stitch is completed. So not much to look at currently. I'll add additional photos when the cowl starts its metamorphosis.
