    About

I wanted to make something special for a friend undergoing treatment for breast cancer and knew that she would just love this. I have never knitted yarn so fine before and did initially find it difficult with the large needles and incredibly fine yarn. Made loads of mistakes and had to unpick lots of times - if I had been knitting for myself it would have been abandoned after a couple of days but I'm so glad I persevered as it does look lovely. The pattern has been amended to say that size 6mm needles not required but the instructions recommend casting off using this size if necessary and I did do this as I found that it was a little tight using 5mm. Also, I thought my tension was OK but I did run out of yarn and had to get another ball for the last few rows so needed 3 balls instead of 2. I'm really pleased with the shawl but don't think I would ever knit it again!

Hi, I’m knitting this lovely shawl for my mother in law for Xmas. May I ask how many stitches did you have in the final row of the main triangle. I’m a bit confused as the tension of the yarn is different from the tension in the instruction leaflet despite it to be written for Debbie bliss Rialto lace yarn. Could you pls help me? Thanks

Hi Milena, do you mean the stockinette triangle? If so I did have the correct number of stitches according to the pattern. I didn’t pay much attention to the tension as I don’t think it’s necessary for a shawl. However, I did have lots of problems with this shawl, mainly due to my errors I think. I swore to never make this again but I actually have done so because I already had the yarn and it was better the second time around. I actually knitted the stockinette triangle the opposite way, from the long edge to the point (decreasing instead of increasing) and found that the edge for picking up the stitches for the next section was a lot neater. I also used 4.5mm needles on the second shawl instead of 5mm and somehow found this easier to handle whilst knitting and didn’t actually make much difference to the size. Don’t know if I have been very helpful but hopefully you can persevere with it and your mother in law will love it. It is very beautiful when finished, I’ve had lots of co

It is lovely knitted up, feels very soft and light as a feather. Suzanne loves it. I am now knitting the same colour but a different design for my daughter in law for her birthday.
