My knitted flamingo, Felipe (https://www.loveknitting.com/felipe-flamingo-knitting-pattern-by-trish-roberts), proved a real hit.
However, a lot of crocheters were disappointed that they couldn’t join in with the flamingo fun… well, now they can!
Although I’ve been able to knit and crochet for a few years, I’d never attempted to translate one into the other. I wondered if it would be a simple of case of replacing the knitted stitches with crocheted ones… it wasn’t! It turns out that knitted stitches are short and fat whereas crocheted ones are a lot squarer. With knitting, the shape develops as you go along; with crochet, you have to dictate the shape throughout. It was fascinating… and occasionally infuriating!
I’m pleased to say that Fabio turned out just as FABULOUS as I hoped. I was also amazed (AMAZED!) when he came out almost exactly the same size as Felipe. So now, whether you can knit or crochet, you can create your own fabulous flamingo friend!
