I wanted to knit "February Socks." My daughter's birthday is Valentine's Day, but, ummm, the socks are for me (I knit her a sweater; hopefully, that makes me sound less selfish)! I am in love with the true afterthought heel. Do you know the one? It's the one that scares many knitters into drinking and depression (just kidding, I hope)! I am all about keeping things simple. I believe that once I got over my fear of snipping a stitch in an already completed sock and realized that lifting the live stitches onto double pointed needles where I wanted the heel to be, it wasn't scary at all. The trick is to "unravel" the snipped yarn a stitch at a time, placing each individual live stitch on one of two parallel dpns. The sock itself is basically "plain vanilla." I wanted to jazz it up a little, so I added duplicate stitch hearts, and voila - they are now my February socks. I hope to publish the pattern including the dreaded afterthought heel very soon.
