Itchy cardigan that Maisie won't wear

    Loved the sound of this pattern and needed to use up some wool, so thought I would give it a go. So far it is testing me......... I'm stuck at the moment as I only have a 40cm circular needle, not 30, but I don't think even a 30 would do this tiny sleeve. Going to dig out my old set of sock needles when I get home. Disappointing.

      Gorgeous cardi such a shame it was itchy. I have a couple of balls of this, was going to make a hat but think I'll make xmas decorations instead if its itchy! It feels so soft too

        I know! I thought it felt gorgeous too. But I think a hat would drive you mad. The jumper I made for myself stays in the wardrobe as the itch gets through my Tshirt. I didn't think we have desperately sensitive skin, but maybe we do?

      Don't know why it's itchy. Alpaca is so soft, and recommended for babies as it doesn't shed either. I have problems with some pure wools but never with alpaca or merino wool.

        I know, that's what I thought, but I made a jumper for myself in it and she's right. It really is prickly.

      Disaster! She won't wear it because it is too scratchy. Such a shame. Actually, this alpaca wool feels lovely to the touch but it is mighty itchy to wear. Won't be buying again.

        Beautiful knitting!
        There are a few methods to make sweaters less itchy. I've read about one involving vinegar, conditioner and leaving the item in the freezer overnight. It might be worth trying it out

        @Natalia: Thank you! that is really interesting. I did wash mine in a load of conditioner in the hope it might lessen the itch, but Maisie won't let hers go anywhere near her!! I'll try the pattern again with something else as it was lovely to knit, and I could do it better next time.
