My children liked the items I was creating with pixel art graphs in excel so I gave it to them as a home school project. I gave them topics and they created the pictures in excel as a pixel art picture. I then turned these into crochet items using the corner to corner technique (c2c). They each chose either cushions or bags. The boys main focus was Minecraft, whereas Kayleigh was more girly! They picked out all the yarn and colours themselves and were really happy with the finished products.
For the each item I also needed inlays. For the cushions it was so I could fill them with toy filling and for the bags it was so nothing fell through the holes. I left this job up to Kayleigh (who is only 15) because she is much quicker on the sewing machine than I am and it was also a great home school project.
