Maitreya means happiness, and love. That is the Buddha with love, who brings love, who brings happiness to people. He is always shown smiling or laughing, hence his nickname in Chinese, the Laughing Buddha.
Life is like a play, therefore, we can actually laugh over it. We do our best to play our role, like Maitreya Buddha who tolerates everything with a radiant heart.
Whoever does that is a Maitreya Buddha, and bringing love and happiness to people. We will feel fulfilled in our giving and loving instead of expecting any love from other people.
