While visiting my daughter who lives in Austria I decided that the three days I had left were enough to knit a cardigan for a tiny new baby. First I had to find a wool shop in Salzburg. Success, Wollzimmer in Schanzlgasse, and Claudia, the owner, like most Austrians, speaks much better English than the average Brit speaks German. Secondly I downloaded a pattern from Loveknitting and learnt not to save a PDF pattern on Kindle in future. Changing a PDF into Kindle format scrambled the pattern horribly. Had to rely on experience and common sense. The Rico yarn was beautiful. My reservation about the pattern was the neckbands, which, being knitted up from the stitches saved at the rib at the start of the two front sections, meet at the back of the neck. It's difficult to get the two cast off edges finished off and sewn smoothly, and you have four ends of yarn to weave in. I'd like a trimmer slimmer centre back finish, so I'll do it differently next time. And yes, I did it in two days.
