This seamless jumper was knitted in the round from the bottom up using an intarsia loop and drop row join. The shoulders were joined with a 3 needle cast off and the sleeves were knitted downwards.
My frail aged mother used to come to us for minding on Wednesday afternoons so my father could play bridge. She always asked if she could help me with anything and one afternoon I had some Noro Cyochin hanks for her to wind into balls on a yarn swift. When my husband came in from the garden he joked about cottage industry and when my father returned from bridge he loved the yarn swift and recalled the days when my mother knitted jumpers for us as children and we were the yarn swifts, holding the wool over two hands while it was wound into balls.
Sadly that was the last time she came to us, as she died only a few days later.
When I knitted up the jumper, and now every time I wear it, I think of that day and how glad she was to be useful. Memories of happy times are very healing.
