    About

Yet another pair of socks from the same pattern! It's just that I find this pattern so simple and relaxing to knit and there is so much lovely sock yarn out there.

I have a major blanket project on the go at the moment and it;s requiring quite a lot of concentration to get the pattern established, so my sock knitting is providing some light relief and fairly instant gratification...not to mention the prospect of lovely socks for my walking boots!

Update: Socks have knitted up well. As I was knitting them for myself I was able to make them 'made to measure' for me by trying them on, very carefully, whilst still on the needles. I adjusted the foot length by reducing by 1cm, not much but it has made a perfect fit for me.

      You make such beautiful socks!
I’ve been tempted to try sock knitting for the first time but don’t know which pattern or wool to choose. I’m an experienced knitter, just never tried socks. Can I ask, as such a prolific sock knitter, do you have a favourite yarn and pattern? I like these socks and also the ribbed ones on your profile but wonder if you think one would be better to try than the other?

        Hi Donna,

I like Austermann Step for sock knitting, I've made several pairs with different colourways of this yarn. As for a pattern Regia Design Line Jazz Colours booklet is my go to sock pattern which can be adapted to produce the ribbed version. Another good pattern is a free lionbrand pattern from love knitting: https://www.loveknitting.com/father-s-day-socks-in-lion-brand-sock-ease-80226
Give sock knitting a go, I'm sure you'll love it. Susan.

@Donna S: I finally finished my first sock (not the pair yet!). It’s taken a few false starts but I like the finish. I used the Austerman Step - it’s lovely to knit with - thank you for the tip. I’ve posted pictures on my profile.

Think I'll give up housework and sleep, then I should be able to fit in more knitting!
