Owl Jumper, Cowl, and Leg Warmers

    About

I wanted to buy a relatively plain pattern which could be adapted using various stitches. First of all though, I wanted to knit the pattern as shown in the jumper. I knit the large size but think maybe I should have knit the medium. The jumper pattern has a round neck. I knit it in Bergere de France 'Cocoon' which is a 70% acrylic, 25% mohair, and 5% alpaca blend. I had bought 20 balls and the jumper took about 14 balls. With the leftovers I knit the legwarmers using a free pattern and adapting it, inserting the Owl logo. They used less than 2 balls. I still had balls to spare so I knit a separate, loose cowl with the Owl logo, using part of another pattern which had a large 'cowl' neck. I simply pull the cowl over my head. I still have two balls left but as I'm not a hat-wearer, I'll simply add it to a yarn stash. :) Hope you like my outfit.

    Pattern

    Yarns

    Accessories

    • Tapestry Needle
    • Stitch Markers
    • Buttons
    • Cable Needle
Other : I used metal buttons for the Owl's eyes, sewing them on with black embroidery thread so that the 'pupil' of the eye is black.

    Measurements

    To fit bust: 102 - 107 cm

Notes: I think I could have got away with a smaller size. I like my jumpers quite sloppy (you never know if there will be shrinkage later on after washing) but it fits ok. The Owl logo is cute, very simply to do with a cable needle, and can be used on other projects.

Well done! I designed the original pattern and it's great to see others' projects and ideas based on it. All your jumpers look great. I'm going to design more jumpers based around the basic shape which took a while to perfect! Hopefully by next winter now. Best wishes, Heather from 'The Lonely Sea'.

Thank you for contacting me. I wondered if the designer would see my usage of the pattern. It's wonderful not only as it is but also as a basic pattern for adaptation. I am just finishing another in a chocolate coloured yarn which does have the owls, but I have mirrored the 'claw' cabling (which you have used to shape the owl), in two narrow panels down the back, front, and sleeves of the jumper. I hope my projects are increasing your sales. I'll be posting images of this latest jumper in due course. :) Valerie
