This year, I'm learning stranded knitting. This small project was perfect for trying out techniques I'd never used before. I made a lot of mistakes on this mitten, but I also learned a lot (which was the point after all). It's unlikely that I'll complete the pair because (1) I neglected to use a smaller needle size on this cuff, so it's too loose, (2) I read the wrong lines of the pattern in a few places, so one tree has a crooked trunk and few of the hearts are "bleeding," (3) there are ridges in the center front and back where I got the tension wrong between needles, (4) I lost the thread (no pun intended) of the decreases at the top, so the pattern suffered, and (5) to my eye, the colors aren't right for each other -- the red either needs to be softer to harmonize with the green, or the green needs to be bolder to stand up to the red. Not every knitting project is a success! This one taught me some helpful lessons, and contributed to my stranded knitting knowledge.
