A sunshine of swirls!
This baby blanket was crocheted in the round from the center out using one color at a time. After working the center, the main body was a 2-round repeat: One round of double crochet followed by a contrasting round of single crochet mesh with clustered hearts. The pattern automatically produced the swirling effect with minimal counting required. In fact, after the first few rounds, I could “read” the stitches sufficiently to memorize the pattern. It did take a while for the hearts to become apparent. But the longer I worked, the more prominent they became.
The blanket was finished with a bi-color trim that was worked in 2 separate rounds. First, the “pink” round was made. Then, the “yellow” round was alternately worked in front of and then in back of the stitches on the “pink” round to create the two-tone effect. Very easy and very effective.
I also think this pattern would make a striking floor pillow in black and grey with neon fuchsia hearts.
