A self-striping smorgasbord!
Worked in one piece, this baby blanket was knitted back-and-forth in rows on a single set of straight needles. The blanket consisted of continuous 48-row wedges which, through the use of short rows, automatically created the circular silhouette. Throughout the pattern, a single strategically-placed stitch marker made the short-row shaping quite simple and, after the third wedge, I had most of the pattern memorized.
After knitting, a single seam joined the cast-on and bind-off sts together. (In this particular case, I chose to graft the stitches for best effect.)
I used Lion Brand Ice Cream (100% acrylic) self-striping and I’m thrilled with how the piece turned out. The progression of the pattern combined with the striping intervals served to create cool swirls of color that look airbrushed into the fabric.
I really enjoyed this pattern and think it would make a stunning oversized shawl in laceweight Shetland wool.
