    About

This project was an adventure in fair isle technique and steeking!

The wool purchased at Elchies - Speyside, Scotland while I was fly fishing the Spey River. With it’s 80% Ryeland and 20% alpaca blend it is “scottish”, but not scratchy. The colors are gorgeous, naturally dyed by a well known dyer on the island of Skye. It has been pure pleasure to knit with this wool and keep fond memories of visit to Speyside! I used 5 colors (100gr each) to produce this flyfishing vest. I used the gauge to calculate my size and followed basic "methods" on reduction for v-neck and armhole.

The armhole and v-neck were steeked. I used a sharp red color to anchor stitches and saved a few photos here for those who may not have done this before. Thanks to Eunny Jang's "Steeking Chronicles" for help!

There is enough wool left to add a pair of fingerless fly fishing mits or a hat. I love fairisle and thank Alice Starmore for her great book about fairisle knitting which inspires me!
