I was a Head Teacher of a busy primary school up until October 2014 when I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and was only given a few months to live. I obviously had to leave my chosen profession in order to have immediate treatment. I found out that my son's girlfriend was pregnant in the following summer months whilst I was still fighting this disease. This only gave me more fight than before in order that I would get to meet my first grandchild in April 2015. Though everyday I didn't know whether I would get to hold my grandchild, so making something for them to remember me by became the next best thing. Whilst teaching I had not had time to knit or crochet but I had all the time in the world now in fact too much, especially the nights I couldn't sleep. So knitting helped me keep my mind active.
