    About

I have an erratic heartbeat and as such need to keep it calm, as it goes off the scale quite a lot and makes me feel ill etc. I found that making this large circular blanket helped me keep my heartbeat level, and lower and stop the racing. I have made 4 large blankets so far and have found that I this relaxation is enabling me to take less medication (agreed by my doctor). This blanket I gave to my mother-in-law as she was moving into a nursing home, and I thought something so personal would help her settle in. 6 months after giving her it, she still talks to all the residents about it and is very proud that her son-in-law made it for her.

What a beautiful blanket I'm sure your mother-in-law will still be talking about her clever son-in-law for many more months to come. Keep knitting.

My mom just moved into a nursing home a couple of weeks ago. You've given a wonderful idea for channeling my own emotions; I feel comforted at the very thought of making something special for her. Thank you for sharing your story!

You very gifted! My cousin does beautiful embroidery and HE is gifted as well. My daughter is in the military and I would like to make this for her. Could you please tell me if possible where can I get the pattern?

Hi, thanks for your lovely comment. I got the pattern from Ravelry it is called a bit of Iceland by Stephen West. He has a shop in Amsterdam which I visited in February and bought some beautiful yarn. Here is a link to the pattern. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-bit-of-iceland
