    About

My son's girlfriend sent me a picture from Facebook of these octopuses that are made for preemies. Apparently it helps them to feel comfort which in turn helps recovery. The link for the pattern tells a bit about it. I contacted a local hospital to see if they would accept these for the premature babies there but have not yet heard back. To update this post: If you are creating this for preemies or need it to be safe for babies, please do not use the yarn I used for the project. Cotton yarn is required to make it safe. Follow the instructions exactly as the website recommends for a baby-friendly octopus.

May I recommend anyone who are interested in supporting this great charity to join our facebook group: Octopus for a preemie UK, we work with over 40 hospitals so far, and the list is growing. We have all the patterns, lists of materials and recommendations directly from the hospitals. There are some requirements to the finished octopus which is very important for the safety of the babies.
      Thank you x

Thank you. I was unable to get through to a contact in the hospital near me and ended up giving this to my granddaughter. I updated my project story so that it is understood the way I made it is not baby-friendly.

Warning: you have to use specific material for preemies (coton) for their safety. Take time to read the link for the pattern and for the project. Requierments are the same across differents countries. All octopus are carfully inspected before they are given to hospitals and they are free. Some people may try to sell them, but they may not be suitable for preemies. Contact your local group, instead of hospitals, if you want to help.

Thank you. I didn't realize it required cotton yarn but just went back and looked at the pattern and you are correct. As I responded to Mia in the above comment, I ended up giving this to my granddaughter since I didnt get a response from the person I contacted at our local hospital.
