    About

This picture shows an oversized sock I made for myself. I suffer from a severe case of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a chronic nerve pain condition. It has affected both my legs, but more so my left leg and foot. I depend on a wheelchair and have a pain medication pump implanted in my abdomen. Knitting helps me to some degree escape the pain. The strong medication and pain have affected my ability to concentrate and focus, and as a result my projects take much longer to finish. It is not unusual that I have to unravel and redo them a few times. Not only does the process of knitting help me deal with the pain, but also, as a result of my condition I cannot wear any regular socks and shoes, since my foot is so extremely sensitive to touch and deformed. I therefore knit very large and loose socks, using very soft yarns, which I can tolerate on my foot without having considerable more excruciating pain. They also prevent the pain from getting worse by keeping my foot warm.
