    About

this project is my Mom's (1920-2012)-she came from a family of crocheters-never knitted until her 80s.Her best friend taught me how to knit as a child and I have enjoyed the skill since. But when my Mom came to live with me when my Dad passed she joined a group called stitch'nchat-older ladies like herself. One day a woman from Catholic Charities came to see the group to ask if they would knit hats for Christmas stockings that they gave to needy children-the neediest of the needy. My Mother asked me to teach her to knit! She wanted to make hats for this project-she never mastered casting on stitiches -so I did that. She never mastered decreasing for the top and finishing-I did that too. But the project was hers. We shopped for the yarn together and chose colors. Made different sizes. She knit 50-60 hats & scarfs a year from 2008 until she left us in 2012.The Senior Center had her efforts written up in the local paper-inspiration for others to give back. And a wonderful bonding for us

Bless you Carolyn for helping your mother to do what she felt called to do. And bless your mother! Beautiful hats that were loved by the person whose life she touched.
