I love knitting. It's been a skill and comfort that I've carried though every period of my life. I also have Lupus. A year ago I was forced to stop working because my illness had made even walking difficult. I've had to confront hand tremors, problems with my memory, and chronic pain.
Knitting is one of the few activities that allows me to find a sense of completion and purpose. It keeps my hands and my mind active. It may take me longer to finish a project, and I've had to frog a piece more than once because I've miscounted, but I keep going.
I altered this pattern because the lace pattern had confounded me to the point of madness. It was like my counting skills had totally disappeared, even with a stitch/row counter. So I changed the lace pattern to a simple "k2tog, yo, k1" pattern every 12 rows and continued the increases until the final row.
