    About

This shawl is amazingly light and can be worn open in this spring-like winter we are having in 2017. Wrapped around twice, it will be cozy wam for a real winter. This Japanese worsted weight, self-striping, thick and thin yarn's colors are strikingly different from the name "Blues, Reds, Lemon" and its catalog pictures.
To discover what this yarn really looks like, I started a shawl pattern I found on Ravelry, for an experiment, not intending to finish the project. The designer said it can be made with any kind of yarn, even though it is written for fingering weight.
It was wild discovering the true colors of the yarn as I went along, learning more about lace stitches, increases and decreases. I only did 108 of the 122 rows, because my heavier yarn made it large faster. Throwing my last caution to the wind, I added my first picot binding for casting off. It doesn't show to best advantage with the thick and thin Noro Kureopatora yarn, but it was a fun experiment.

    Pattern

    Azzu's Shawl

    This pattern is from:
Emma Fassio's Ravelry Store on ravelry.com

    Yarns

    Needles & Hooks

    • Crochet Hook 3.50mm (US 4)
    • Circular 5.50mm (US 9) 100cm
Other : Tapestry needle, stitch markers

    Accessories

    • Stitch Markers
    • Tapestry Needle

    Measurements

Notes: Using a worsted thick and thin yarn, I used 40-inch circular US #9 needles. The pattern was easy to follow, but I added lace rows sooner than directed, because with the heavier yarn, I had to skip the last 14 rows. I saw a picot bindoff in one maker's version of the pattern on the Ravelry site, and I did a picot bindoff for practice. The final size was 72 inches wide by 22 inches at the deepest spot

I think your Picot bind-off experiment proved beautiful results! I love that you played with the yarn weight and this pattern with Noro!!! So lovely. SO lovely. Enjoy that yarn happiness.

Thank you so much. I am finding more projects to do bind-offs for fun, and am just doing a crazy dishcloth with an I-cord border.

Thank you so much. The colors were a surprise to me, but I have found clothes to coordinate, to my pleasure. Blocking was important to how it turned out.
