My son and daughter-in-law had a stillborn premmie baby boy, named Mitchell. He was so small that there were no clothes available to fit him. My son went everywhere trying to find the smallest outfit for him, but there were none. So they made do with a onesie with the legs tucked up. They asked me to knit an outfit for a tiny stillborn baby. I did two different outfits - one is a cloak with hood and a pair of tiny bootees, and the other is an extended, buttoned gown with fore shortened sleeves accompanied by a bonnet and bootees. I knitted about 25 outfits in total and they were donated to the Kalgoorlie Hospital for use by parents with stillborn babies. It was such a sad occasion, but to know that I could do something positive (if not for my own children, then for someone else's) to help make the event a little less traumatic and perhaps even offer some comfort in their time of distress and loss.
