VAT Update January 1, 2015
I am one of the many, many designers on Ravelry who has been caught up in the recent changes to VAT laws that came into effect in the EU on January 1st, 2015. I have copied the following description of the situation directly from the Ravelry forum for sellers like me:
“Starting January 1st 2015, new tax laws apply to digital goods and services sold to customers in the European Union (EU). Whenever a customer from an EU member country buys a PDF or other digital product, VAT (tax) will be owed to the country where the buyer resides. The tax varies by country but it averages ~21%. This change is a huge problem for microbusinesses for many reasons…to oversimplify: it doesn’t make any sense for very small sellers to deal with any of this because of a handful of sales a year.
