One recent winter, my part of the
world was rapidly fluctuating between
cold and snow, and unseasonable
warmth. On a trip up to the mountains
I passed many lakes, all with the same
bizarre appearance: lattice-like
sheets of ice, intersected by rolling
“waves” of ice where the water had
lapped up during a warm spell and then
refrozen. I immediately thought of
those lakes when I put this cowl on –
and then I thought of how nice this
