    About

So I’m taking a really lovely shawl pattern, and butchering it somewhat, to include a lace repeat, oh and…. sleeves (hopefully)!!!
Ideas Ref also 1) Leif & 2) Summertime Shawl

Well I managed to get the sleeves sorted out - did those as my lace/mesh pattern, as I wanted to keep them light and floaty. And I’ve also added a picot border around everything :o
Despite it being very light and airy, it’s actually quite warm due to being Alpaca yarn.

Cable Pattern: 8 row rpt with cable cross on R5.

Lace Pattern: YFW, K2tog (rpt along row).
Done on 3rd & 5th rows of Cable Pattern, repeated on following 3rd/5th rows, then garter sts for the 2 following 3rd/5th rows, then repeat Lace Pattern.

Sleeves (knit-in-round): R1= YFW, K2tog (rpt along row). R2= Purl. Repeat these 2 rows.

Edit: original (free) Henriette shawl pattern can be found here...

Hello Jacqui. I kind of made it up as I went along :D I'll dig out my notes and have a look, but it might not make much sense now :o
It was based on a (free) shawl pattern from Ravelry https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/henriette "a small triangle shawl in garter stitch" which has the instructions for the central cable; but you could use any basic shawl pattern.
I did simple Yfwd, K2tog bands to lighten the garter stitch. I kept trying it on, so that I could decide where I wanted to position the sleeves, then fold the front 'cornerpoints' to where they needed to connect to the back (yellow to yellow & orange to orange stitch markers in the photos) to create a shrug body and joined the front & back (I think that I held the sleeve stitches on a cord) then finished the lower part of the pattern. Then went back to the saved stitches and knitted each sleeve in the round, with a Yfwd, K2tog pattern to match the back holey bits. Finished off with a 3-stitch picot edge to tidy ever

Sorry it cut the end off my reply!!!

When I find my notes, if I can make sense of them and type them up, I'll let you know.
You might also want to look at a pattern on Ravelry called Leif, which is a documented pattern for this style of garment (and much prettier than my frankenstein) https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/leif-4

@CraftyG: thanks for that. If you can work it out wouldn't mind giving it a try, but don't stress if you can't. Will take a look at Leif pattern. Many thanks. J

Hello Jacqui, I've managed to make sense of my notes, and have typed them up. If you would like to email me at too_eden@yahoo.co.uk, I'll send you the PDF of it :)

I'm more into crochet this past while back get real enjoyment from it and doing some machine sewing also. Knitting is well on the back boiler at present. Your shawl is really lovely.

Thank you Maureen :) Crochet is something that I keep having a go at doing, but that's on my back boiler as I'm quite rubbish at it :/

@CraftyG: practice makes perfect as it goes and its true. My Gran taught me Granny squares as a kid but I went to day classes to learn reading patterns wen i grew up prefer it to knitting tbh.

thank you Christine :) Despite me 'winging it' with the lace pattern & sleeve, it's actually exactly how I'd envisaged it ;)
