    About

I had managed to buy a lot of 6ply yarn in recent sales, so needed to knit up something small to see how a finished project looked. Very difficult to get hold of patterns for 6 ply yarn, so opted for a sport weight 5ply pattern with a similar tension.

    Yarns

    • material-yarn
      Morris Paddington 6 ply - 80% Bamboo, 20% Merino 50 gm balls - Petal Twirl shade 615 3.5 balls

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 3.50mm (US 4) 100cm

    Accessories

    • Stitch Markers
    • Buttons

    Measurements

    6-12 months

Notes: Although I knitted the largest size, I think the finished cardi would probably fit a 6 month old. I also extended the width of the sleeves by adding on another 5 rows to each side of sleeve after I had already cast off. Sleeves are knitted in with garment, so rather than unpick I just picked up stitches from cast on/cast off edges and extended from there. I also did 2 rows of single crochet around the turn back edge of the sleeves.

Thanks Vera, I love knitting your patterns. I knew it would knit up smaller because of the different ply yarn, but still happy with finished cardi and so easy knitting sideways with limited sewing up at finish. Have your latest pattern ready for next project.

It looks lovely Lyn. Beautiful even knitting.
Do you block your work? I am just wondering if I should I am knitting a cotton little jacket at the moment and it is looking very uneven so I am wondering if I should block it.

Not true blocking in that sense, but I place a tea cloth over knitting and hold iron above, not directly on item and press the steam button. I don’t use blocking boards, pins etc like I have seem in pics. Thanks for your kind comments. This was my first baby jacket in a while as I have been finishing off 2 cardis I made for myself for winter. Plus I don’t get so enthusiastic about knitting in the hot weather.😅

Thanks Lyn, I have read alot of different methods of blocking I have only ever pressed or steamed depending on yarn because I find after the first wash every thing seems to even out. Love to see your cardis when you have finished. I know what you mean about the hot weather.

@Jennifer M: another thing is I usually only ever knit with circular needles as I find them so much easier to hold than straight needles. Having said that for the first time in ages I am currently on straights as I needed a 6.5 needle for latest cardi for granddaughter and it was the only interchangeable tip I didn’t have so had to resort to ‘straights’ and am not enjoying it at all. Will pick up tips next time in city as have to knit same cardi for other granddaughter.

I do use circular needles sometimes but I prefer to knit with straights, it is probably what I am used to, though I am forever breaking needles because I do not like metal needles I find them too hard on the hands.
