This is the first time making a sweater starting with the buttons. The buttons were a gift from my DIL, vintage buttons, possibly from the 1940's, and possibly bakelite. One of the buttons still had the thread attached from when it was removed from the garment. The Berroco Maya yarn is a blend of cotton and alpaca and is wonderfully soft, drapes beautifully and works up light as a feather. I didn't use a pattern. The body of the sweater is mostly stockinette except for the upper front yoke which is done in garter stitch. I saw this technique on another pattern somewhere, but now I can't find the pattern again to give credit to this idea. What the garter stitch does to the fronts is create effortless neck shaping by scrunching up the fronts.
