In my state, there's a group called the Caring Hearts Association. They give an annual grant to a student of my high school. If someone has an idea for a charity project but need money, they write an essay to Caring Hearts to try and get a grant.
I'd started knitting about two years prior. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and I needed to destress. And ever since I started, my anxiety has decreased, to the point where I no longer need to see a therapist. But knitting is expensive, I'm broke, and I often don't know what I want to make. I don't have the patience for big projects.
So I wrote an essay, asking for money to make baby hats for hospitals. They gave me a small grant to do that! The box pictured is the first of many boxes I intend to send.
One of the comments on my essay stuck with me.
"We're giving you this grant because we love that you're helping others while you help yourself by knitting."
I am DEFINITELY a happy knitter now!
