    About

My first real attempt at fair isle knitting and it's easier than I thought - I'm enjoying it, although not looking forward to sewing in all the ends! I have just had to order 2 more balls of wool, one main and one teal, so it's turning out to be very expensive. The wool is lovely though. However, I'm not sure about the pattern - the colours are a bit 'Christmas jumper' - but I'm too far into it to stop now. Taking ages - done the back, front x2, and working on the first sleeve.

This is gorgeous. Amazed it's your first fair isle project. Did you use the recommended yarn?

This is absolutely beautiful. Amazing knitting - so neat. I always struggle with getting an even tension on fairisle. What’s your trick/tip?

I honestly don’t know! My main issue was getting all the threads tangled but I worked out a method of knitting with both hands with a colour in each. I also stretched the knitting out along the needle as I went and wove in every three stitches. This seemed to stop the thread at the back getting too tight or loose.

Just finished it - very satisfying, even sewing in the endless ends was quite therapeutic. I had to get yet another ball of the main colour in the end. Now I can get on with my life :-)

I love Fair Isle knitting. Except when your concentration slips and you discover a mistake about two days work ago! It doesn't look at all Christmas jumper to me. Adore the colours.
