    About

Wanted a quick project and decided to get a head start on a Christmas knit. This flew off the needles - I didn't realise it would be over so quickly!

    Pattern

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 4.00mm (US 6)
    • Circular 3.50mm (US 4)

    Accessories

    • Stitch Markers
    • Stitch Holder
    • Tapestry Needle

    Measurements

    2-4yr in

Notes: My gauge was off slightly so it's a little larger than 2-4 years. Used an alternating cable cast on for the body and sleeves, and made a folded neckband.

What a fantastic project so beautifully executed - your tension is great! The joy about knitting something slightly bigger is that children have this (slightly annoying) habit of GROWING!!! Anyone would be proud to wear this jumper. Well done!

I love the colours! Are these all Willow and Lark? I can’t see a yellow in that range

Like your color choices a lot, but the main reason I am prompted to comment is your folded over neckband. It looks so tidy and comfortable. I will file this idea away. I wonder how it would work on a top down sweater. Perhaps you would need a very stretchy loose cast on, perhaps using larger needles for the first few rows. Also, never heard of alternating cable case on. Thanks for your expertise.

Thanks Christine! I'm a big fan of folded over neckband - I feel like it looks a bit more polished. I've used it before for a top down sweater (my Improv + Flax project) and it works perfectly!

You work a normal cast on, and when you're ready to work the neck you pick up stitches from the cast on, work the ribbing for double the height you want, and either bind off loosely and stitch down, or whip stitch down the live stitches.

I think it actually works better done that way than knitting the neckband straight onto the sweater like I did here, because the cast on row gives a lot more structure to the neck. Hope that helps!

Thank you! Haha, I know, I still can't believe how quickly it knit up. I guess I was super keen to get to that colourwork yoke!!
