When I was deployed I was injured and unable to do much. I was in pain all the time even while sitting or laying down. I needed a therapy that allowed me to make small movements and help to operate and coordinate my hands properly. I also needed a way to help my mind as I was gaining weight and felt defeated. It didn't matter what people said to me, I felt miserable and my confidence in myself had plummeted. When my English husband, who loves sweater vests, asked me to make him a vest I was reluctant but he pushed me. Soon my mood started to change, my arms, wrists and fingers started to work properly over the course of a year. It made me feel accomplished, I could concentrate again, and my anxiety started to ease away. Knitting helped far more than practicing writing even. I was so happy and surprised. Knitting has been and always will be such an amazing skill for veterans.
