    About

This year, I'm teaching myself stranded knitting (Fair Isle). Getting the tension just right is proving a challenge! To address this problem, I decided to attempt to make a cardigan with steeks. As with all of my first efforts, I made a few mistakes and learned a lot. Next time I make a sweater with steeks, I'll use finer yarn (fingering, not Aran) and make my steek narrower (three rows, not seven). I secured the cut ends on this steek with two rows of crochet, and I slip-stitched the button band facing. Time will tell whether it holds up to wear and tear from an active child!

Other : I inherited a HUGE button box from my grandmothers, who were seamstresses from the 1920s-50s. I used their grey pearl shank buttons on this sweater (secured on the back with a second button) -- a gift for their great-great granddaughter!

    Measurements

Notes: I made size 3 to 4 years.
This pattern is well-written and easy to follow!
It also includes a darling, matching hat.
