    About

Saw this free pattern and thought to knit it for my son. My first stranded knitting was a pair of fingerless gloves I made sometime last year when I had just started knitting and it was a 'pain' to knit ( would post pics sometime). So I thought to try again, this time holding yarns in both hands.

Since he's quite tall for his age with 26" actual chest size, and outgrows his clothes too quickly, I wanted to knit a size bigger than was provided for in the pattern.

Here is where I am at today, after much 'tinking' and much more heart-ache. (04.02.17)

05.03.17 - Finally finished knitting today, 'thanks' to my daily commute. Picture shows it worn straight off the needle. It's currently drying flat with no blocking as I made it 2 sizes or so bigger than his normal size.

Not perfect by a long short, but I'm very happy it turned out okay.

    Yarns

    Needles & Hooks

    • Crochet Hook 3.00mm (US 2.5)
    • Circular 4.50mm (US 7)
    • Circular 3.25mm (US 3) 100cm
Other : Used the crochet hook to correct sts where I had swapped colours in error.

    Accessories

    • Stitch Markers
    Other : scrap yarn

    Measurements

His chest is 26", CO for a 36" vest circumference.

Notes: I CO 200sts hoping for a 36" inches finished garment size (much bigger than his actual size) 'cos, I didn't want to spend this much time on something he may not wear for long.

Made a swatch with J C Brett as that was to be the background colour, changed my mind but didn't make another as the yarns all have similar recommended gauge. So, ran with that.

Got 5.7sts/inch on 4.5mm needles after blocking, which should give me 205 sts, but CO 200sts after some permutations.

Ribbing on 3.25mm needle using extra stretchy CO by Tilly Buddy on YouTube. No dec, worked 9 rnds before pattern

Used 4.5mm for both charts, and remaining part of body.

Did another repeat of chart A (regretted this idea as I made tons of mistakes).

    Learning Points
    * Get a graph paper (or DIY it) to see how an intended adjustment to a chart will look.

    * Pay more attention to row gauge.

        Thanks for your kind comments

I can't wait myself, and the would-be owner is also very impatient to try the finished vest.
