A stray thought crossed my mind as to whether it would be possible to come up with a construction for a garment that did not require the knitter’s gauge to be known. And then this thought blossomed: If that were the case you could knit it with any weight of wool and be sure of it fitting by once taking one measurement of your knitting. No maths at all beyond that (unless you want to of course).
This little cardigan was my first prototype (there is also an adult version of the pattern). There are of course a few provisos -if you really don’t want to swatch at all choose a yarn with a reasonably tight twist and in a fibre that doesn’t grow or change too much when washed. I didn’t swatch this at all - but I was familiar with the yarn.
Its knit flat in one piece including the tops of the sleeves, . So there is no picking or joining in of sleeves.
