I taught myself to crochet at a basic level at Christmas this year. I have been knitting for my whole life and really got into it when I was 17 but when I got a beautiful set of crochet needles I decided to acquire a new skill. So I have made this blanket for my father's birthday. It is simply just a granny square that I kept growing and growing with no direction or pattern. I didn't know how much wool I would need or when I was going to stop. I just kept going to keep my hands busy while I watched TV until the night before his birthday, finished a row and that was that. There were a few hitches along the way considering how new I am to crochet, but I think it looks pretty great now. It's his birthday today and someone has already asked me to make them one! It may be very basic but I am proud of it. This youtube video taught me how to make a granny square https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAyJCq3hQjw . Continuing what is in this video makes this blanket.

once you learn how to do the initial granny square just continue to do as you have to make the square until it's as big as you want it to be! the video says to make lots of little ones and put them together but mine is just one square that I continued. It's so easy! And just FYI, if you are continuing all in one colour, the tying and cutting for each round is not necessary, just join the ends and chain two to reach the corner and then continue! Once you watch the video what I'm saying won't seem so complicated. If you do end up making it, feel free to ask me for help x
