Three years ago, almost to this date I got diagnosed with an egg sized tumor in my brain and for the following 3 weeks I did not know whether I was dying within days or whether operation was possible. Eventually it was decided to try to remove the darned thing, despite the riskiness of the operation. In the trauma of these events the thing I focused most on was how I could continue keeping my kids (7 year old daughter and 18 year old son) warm in case I did not return from the hospital. So with that in mind I went to my local yarn shop, where I had never been before, and bought needles and yarn to make cowls and scarfs for my kids to knit at the hospital. When As a teenager I had knitted a few sweaters, but 30 years passed until I picked up the needles again, busy with gradschool and my life as a scientist. These knitting projects helped me tremendously by coping with the painful recovery and I have basically be knitting every day since the operation. Especially on the difficult days.
