I wanted a long rectangular hand towel to go with some washcloths I knit for my friend's birthday last year, and made the following modifications to this wonderful pattern.
Cast on multiple of 4 + 6 stitches.
Mods:
slip 1st stitch as if to purl with yarn in front, then bring yarn to the left around needle and start the row.
modified rows and additions:
Row 26, Knit
Row27 Knit
Row 28 Knit
Row 29 Purl
Row 30 Knit
Row 31 Knit
Rows 32-38 as written (seed stitch)
Row 39 Knit
Row 40 knit
Row 41 Knit
Row 42 Purl
Row 43 Knit
Row 44 Knit
Row 45 Knit
knit pattern as written to desired length (repeat rows 7, 8, 9, 10)
Then knit rows 7, 8, and 9 only (rows 23, 24, 25 in pattern)
Repeat rows 26-45 above
4 repeats of pattern (rows 7, 8, 9, 10)
knit 6 rows
Bind off.
