    About

Hattie loves bunnies, so when I saw this pattern, knitted in cotton, I decided to make it for her for the summer. I had some fluffy white yarn left over from the fluffy sheep cushion I knitted, so I used that for the bunny tail to make it fun! It complements the bunny cushion in the photo, which I made her for Easter.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 3.25mm (US 3) 60cm
    • Circular 2.75mm (US 2) 60cm

    Accessories

    • Buttons
    • Stitch Holder
Other : I managed to find some nice rabbit buttons in a little shop in Saundersfoot, which finished off the jumper nicely.

    Measurements

Notes: I made the size for 3-4 years old, even though Hattie is not yet three. However, I made several changes to the pattern. I didn't like the garter stitch edge, so I made a picot edge at the bottom and round the sleeve edges, which I liked much better. I also thought the neck was far too wide and floppy so I adjusted the number of stitches left on the needle for shoulder shaping. Even when changed, I still thought it was too wide. Also, I found it difficult to get a satisfactory result with the edges of the intarsia rabbit - I don't think cotton is the easiest yarn to achieve a crisp edging to a design and I've come to the conclusion that I'm much happier knitting with wool! I would also adjust the shoulder opening if I did it again - the cotton makes a very loose fabric on which to attach buttons or knit buttonholes! I think I should have put a strip of tape along the placket to make it firmer, but I'd undone it and reknitted it so many times by then that I couldn't face starting a

I have also used this pattern to make two children jumpers. I love the bunny chart but also made several changes to the pattern otherwise; edging and shoulders. It was the first time i had used this particular way of shaping shoulders and it took a couple of attempts to sew them up nicely! Although yours look fine.

Hi Susan-Cheryl. I'm glad it wasn't just me that decided changes had to be made! I must be honest and say I was still not quite happy with the shoulders; on the whole, I think set in or raglan sleeves are better for small children, but I didn't feel clever enough to alter the pattern that far! It's always interesting to hear how other people got on with a pattern, so thanks very much for taking the trouble to comment. Happy knitting!
