    About

Pattern is “Pretty Party Goer” from Patons Book 972 “26 New Designs for Baby Knitteds”. While this set was knitted in a vintage Patons yarn, any good quality, pure wool laceweight 2 ply would work, provided it is reasonably sturdy rather than fly-away light (Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace 2ply looks like it would work well as an alternative yarn).

Thanks Hazel - I still have to decide what colour ribbons to use.

@Australian Jayne: Jayne, choosing a ribbon is always a gamble; maybe a nice lavender? Or a nice light green for contrast. See, never easy 😉

@Hazel H: Yep, I think the lavender sounds like a winner!

Thanks Jennifer! I have the stash of 2 ply since the 1970s and have been slowly knitting it up. Only problem is it take so little of it to make so much. I though I would use up all my 25 gm balls on that set, but I still have plenty left over.

It would have been the early seventies whenI knitted the 2ply jackets for my nieces. I had my grandmother's patterns.

@Jennifer M: Similar story for me - I was given my aunty’s patterns in the 70s. I have been adding to them through Op Shopping and online auctions ever since.

Some absolutely beautiful knitting, and in 2ply. Gosh I think I am doing well when I tackle 4ply! Well done.

Thanks so much Lyn. I love knitting in the fine yarns as my hands tend to hurt using larger needles (sounds like I’m in my 80s, but I am in my 50s). But yes, you’re right, 2 ply takes a long time to knit - back in the day I could have knitted an Aran jumper in the same time that little set took.
