    About

Pingouin designs are among my favourites, but the challenge is finding substitute yarns for them. This pattern originally specified Pingouin Mohair 70. Couldn't find anything close, so crossed my fingers and used Willow & Lark Plume double (and yes I did knit a tension square this time!), and more by luck than judgement it came up a pretty good match.

I was scrolling and saw your sweater and thought - wow that looks like a Pingouin pattern that I made for my niece. It was the first sweater that I ever knit. I was simply delighted to see that it is in fact the same pattern! Looks beautiful! Good design is timeless. Thank you!

You must have been a jolly talented beginner :) I love the Pingouin patterns, too - wonderful designs and oh such beautiful children! Don't I wish I'd collected all the books when they still had a shop near my mother's house. Are you still knitting for your niece or has she taken up her own projects?

@Suzie H: My niece now has children of her own! I'd love to knit for them, but they are all hot little people who never want sweaters, or coats on. I don't think I was that talented - I just didn't know what was a good beginner pattern. I knit Pingouin patterns for all my nieces and nephews. Have loads of the magazines - so if you are ever trying to find a pattern - I might have it. I agree the children were all so gorgeous. I did another pingouin mohair sweater that was cream in a honeycomb pattern and then the insides of the honeycomb were different pastel shades ( 3 or 4 can't recall) of mohair. I loved that one. My niece ( now 34) still has it too!
