My father is an enthusiastic wearer of scarves. He was absolutely devastated when my mum put his Icelandic scarf in the washing machine and it came out again about 30 cm long... ;) As I am usually at a loss as to what to get my dad for Christmas, I immediately set to and started knitting.
This is a truly great pattern: the result looks sophisticated, but actually it is really easy to make! The cable-like pattern does not consist of actual cables, but is created by knitting three stitches together. Ideal for knitting during bus or train rides!
