My friend Alison is doing a PhD on caring and compassion. She gave 10 people £5 and asked us to use it for an act of kindness and to make it grow (either the money or the kindness). I bought some wool and knitted some hats for this premature baby charity and asked three friends to do the same and they were then to recruit 2 or 3 friends and so on. They passed on any wool they had left or wool that they already had. After a month there are 15 of us knitting and crocheting and we will wind it up in May. Alison is looking to see if the acts of kindness not only benefit the recipients but also have a positive mental health effect on those doing the acts. It really does make you feel more positive helping others and everyone has been so enthusiastic at taking part.
