Rainbow Cardigan for Big Sister Hannah

I made this for my granddaughter Hannah who will be five when she wears it.

    About

I always intended to knit a rainbow cardigan for both of my little grand daughters, so it was doubly hard trying to choose seven colours for each one, and to overlap some of the colours to save buying so many balls! Hannah loves pink, so I based her colour range around that. I now have plenty of Aran yarn left to knit some more garments for little people! As with Sarah's rainbow cardigan I used bigger needles [6 mm] to get the right gauge and knitted the pattern one size up.

I just love your colour combos and those cute buttons. I have just completed 2 in different sizes for my granddaughters. I really enjoyed knitting them.

      I cannot figure out how to follow some of the instructions."Work 3 [1: 1: 1: 1] rows, ending after 2 [2: 6: 4: 4] rows using D
and with a ws row." It just does not make sense to me. Can you help?

I don't have my pattern here in the camper, but if I remember correctly this meant - next work the number of rows for the size you have chosen e.g. 3 for the smallest size and when you have done this you should have knitted / completed 2 rows (smallest size) of colour D. Hope this helps.

@Denise: you are so kind to reply while you are camping! I am still confused. Row 'D' overall stripe sequence instructions states "Using D, work 6 [6:8:8:8] rows" and then the color stripe sequence continues with E and F, both 6 rows (for smaller size, which I am doing.)

The actual instructions for the LEFT FRONT are:
        "...from shape raglan armhole:
Cast (bind) off 3 sts at beg of next row. 25 [27:30:32:35] sts.
Work 1 row, ending with a ws row.
Break off M and join in A.
Joining in and breaking off colours as required, now work rem section of raglan armhole in strip sequence (see above), working shaping as follows:**
Dec 1 st at raglan armhole edge of next and 5 [6:6:7:6] foll 4th rows, then on fol 0 [0:2:0:3] alt rows.19 [20:21:24:25] sts.
Work 3 {1:1:1:1] rows, ending after 2 [2:6:4:4] rows using D and with a ws row.
...then instructions continue with shape front neck."

If I "work 3 rows" using D color as instructed above, that rainbow section will be 3 rows short

@Nancy N: it means that after you have finished all the armhole decreases and now have 19sts (smallest size), you continue to knit 3 more rows (without any decreases) in whatever colour your stripe pattern is up to. At the end of these 3 rows, your colour pattern should now be at the point where you have just finished your 2nd row of colour D (smallest size). It took me a while to figure this all out too!
