    About

I'm working in London for a month so I'm taking this as my project for lonely hotel evenings. I made this 18 months ago for Maisie, in baby cashmerino - lovely - but then my daughter washed it! only hard core machine wash wool survives in her household, so I'm redoing it in the right stuff. (Maisie did continue wearing it as a felted jacket, which did look stylish and got lots of favourable comments!!)

Thank you so much! It is so much easier to knit than it looks.

@Helen G: I would like to knit this for my granddaughters for next year, especially as the eldest is obsessed with any clothes that resemble a rainbow.

@Lyn R: you will enjoy knitting it, and it is really quick. The hardest thing is getting buttons to match!!

@Helen G: I have discovered an amazing button shop that sells purely buttons priced from 40c to $123! I could have spent a whole day in there, it was like stepping back in time.

@Lyn R: oh you are so lucky - there are NO shops in Manchester now. John Lewis was always the go to place but now they make you buy standard buttons on cards.

5 and a half year old granddaughter has seen this & wants one. I would prefer to knit in dk & wondered if this would work & bring up to her size. Also much as I love merino don't think it would stand up to her family wash loads for long.

Haha no, my daughter felted it within a week! I've just knitted another in DK on 3.50 needles and it's fine

@Laurette F: I used Paintbox DK and it's been fine. Splits easily. Site wouldn't let me list the colours

@Helen G: Oh Helen, weren’t you upset at seeing your beautiful work felted?

@Lyn R: yes of course, but I've kind of come to expect it - she did a beautiful jumper I'd made for her husband too. Have had to learn to only use superwash acrylic. No luxury wools for that household!!

@Helen G: knitted up beautifully and so easy. Granddaughter loves it, & so does mummy and her friends and is hinting for me to knit one for her. Think I could extend pattern up in size & thought it would look good started with dark colour fading up to pale of the same shade. Just to work out quantity of wool. Future project methinks.

@Laurette F: oh good, I'm so glad you liked it. Yes that sounds a lovely idea. I think it's so versatile you can just use thicker wool and needles and the size increases. The lady who created it ought to do some bigger sizes!!
