I think this is an elegant pattern. I found the upper third challenging - keeping track of decreases, the broken rib pattern and the short row neck shaping all at the same time. But the pattern is well written. The pattern has many sizes from adolescent through XL adult man, and after I was done it occurred to me that I should have written out for myself just the directions for the size that I made, and this would have alleviated my neck shaping confusion. I made the 2nd smallest size for my 10-year-old grandson, but I used smaller needles since the DK weight yarn that I used is somewhat light weight. I diverged from the pattern by making a folded over neck. Did Kitchener stitch for the first time for the underarms and was pleased to discover that this is not hard. I looked up "Rock Island Line", knowing that this is a song performed by Johnny Cash, and learned that this was written by Lead Belly and that Rock Island is an island in the Mississippi River.
