    About

I had just bought enough yarn and a pattern to knit this beautiful Rowan cardigan and had started knitting the back section when unfortunately I fell off my bike and broke my shoulder. At first I thought that I wouldn't be able to knit for weeks and weeks as my arm had to be immobilised in a sling and was very stiff and painful. After a few days I picked up my needles again to try and found that I was able to knit but could only manage one row very slowly before needing to stop. After a few weeks I was able to gradually increase the number of rows. Knitting actually helped with my physical rehabilitation by improving the fine motor skills of finger and hand movements at first and helping build up the muscles in my arm and shoulder again. It was very satisfying to see my cardigan take shape as my health improved and kept me occupied during a lengthy sick absence from work.
I am delighted that I have now finished the cardigan and my shoulder is also pretty well back to normal again.
