    About

My friend's daughter had her second baby recently and I offered to make her something. My friend, who raises alpacas, asked me to make a blanket shawl that she saw on Craftsy, using some Rowan alpaca yarn from her shop, as well as a small amount of handspun that she and her mother had spun from their own alpacas. The yarn amounts differed from those called for, so I just divided the colours into two and striped away on each half of the shawl, incorporating the handspun here and there as I went. Strands of the handspun were also woven through the bumps of the garter stitches to give the subtle checked look called for in the pattern. My friend completed the weaving and tassels.
It was a wonderful way to preserve some small family keepsakes, and hopefully will be enjoyed by her daughter for years to come.

Sorry, 1 more question, what kind of yarn is the marble-y gray in the middle between the tan stripes? I'm thinking of making this and I like your version. Thanks again, Barbara

The marble-y bits are achieved by working a strand of fine alpaca yarn together with the Rowan chunky. The fine yarn is handspun by my alpaca farmer friend.

Very pretty, I like the brown with the grays.
I prefer your idea of using alpaca instead of wool, as wool, unless it's merino, would be very scratchy. It is a beautiful garment.
      Thank you for sharing,
