No I don’t think so. The yarn overs make you xtra stitches which get knitted into the next round. Rounds 5&6 form the pattern which is how the poncho gets wider.

Can you please tell me if round 5 is errata? What does K to 2 sts before SM mean? Thanks for any help.

Hi Janice. It’s a while since I did this but my memory is that in round 4 you place 2 markers. In round 5 you knit to 2 stitches before the first marker. (SM). Then you do the yarn overs. This makes the eyelet pattern. You then knit to 2 stitches before the 2nd marker and do the same thing. The poncho gets wider and wider as you go down, with more and more stitches between the eyelet patterns. Hope that helps.
